Countdown videos are one of the oldest formats on YouTube, and they still work because a ranked list makes people wait for number one. The hard part is the list: picking the entries, checking each fact, and finding a picture for every one. The countdown maker researches the topic, writes the list with one line for each entry, and lets you change anything before it is made.
Then it counts down from the last place to number one, with a big rank number, the entry's name, a small progress ladder and a title bar over each picture. This page covers how a countdown gets made, 36 list ideas that work, two example scripts, and the questions people ask first.

How a countdown gets made
Countdowns are made in the TallyReel web app. Pick Top 10 countdown on Create.
1. Type what you're ranking, like fastest animals on Earth.
2. Pick the length of the list: Top 3, Top 5 or Top 10.
3. The list is researched, using background notes from Wikipedia when the topic has them, and written with an opening line and one line for each entry.
4. Edit any entry, type in your own, change the opening line, or move entries up and down. It always counts down to number 1.
5. Pick the pictures: AI pictures in a look you choose, real stock footage, or My photos, where you add your own photo to any entry and the rest are painted.
6. The voice reads each entry as it appears, with the rank, the name and a title bar on screen, and the video is ready to download or post.
Making a list worth waiting for
A countdown lives or dies on number one. Put the entry people will argue about at the top, and keep the most surprising fact for the last line. Each entry should have one specific detail, not a general compliment: a bright pink lake, colored by algae, is better than a beautiful lake.
Top 5 fits Shorts, Reels and TikTok in under a minute. Top 10 in a wide video makes a longer YouTube video. Rankings start arguments in the comments, which is good for reach, so say how you ranked them (by speed, by size, by your own taste) and invite viewers to post their own number one.
Check facts that change, like the tallest buildings, the biggest films or sports records, before you make the video. Research helps, but you are the last check.
Languages and credits
Countdowns can be written in any of the languages TallyReel makes videos in, including Hindi, Urdu, Spanish and Arabic. A countdown uses credits by its length, 100 credits a minute with stock footage, about 207 with AI pictures, like any other video.
Questions
Can AI make a top 10 video?
Yes. Type a topic and the AI researches it, writes a ranked list with a line for each entry, and makes a countdown video with the rank, name and a picture for each one.
Can I change the order of the list?
Yes. Move any entry up or down, edit its name or line, or type in your own entry before anything is made.
Where do the facts come from?
When the topic has a Wikipedia article, its notes are given to the writer so the facts come from somewhere you can check. Read every entry before you make it.
Can I use my own pictures?
Yes. Choose My photos and add a photo to any entry, from your device or your Library. Entries without one get a painted picture.
Type the idea into TallyReel, read the script, and it makes the video for you: in the browser, on your phone, or in Studio on your own computer. Start on the free plan.
