My night security job came with one rule. Never look at camera 9.

The building has eight cameras. I counted them on my first night, twice.

But the monitor always showed nine screens, and the ninth was just static.

On my third week, the static cleared. It showed my desk, from behind.

On the screen, someone was standing right behind my chair.

I didn't turn around. I just kept my eyes on camera 9, and watched the figure slowly lean closer.
