Why School Buses Are Yellow
School buses in America are yellow for a very practical reason.
In the 1930s, buses came in every color, and some were hard to see.
In 1939, a professor gathered transport officials for a conference in New York.
They tested colors, and a yellow orange shade won because it stands out at dawn and dusk.
Black letters on yellow are easy to read, even from far away.
So that bright color is not about style. It is there to be seen.
