Hands, shelves, storefronts, and the story of the people behind them
Small Business Saturday is the Saturday after Thanksgiving. American Express started it in 2010 to send holiday shoppers to local, independent businesses, and it now sits between Black Friday and Cyber Monday as the one day of the weekend that belongs to Main Street. In 2026 it falls on Saturday, November 28.
You cannot outspend the big chains that weekend, but you do not need to. People want to see who they are buying from. A faceless reel does that well: hands at work, the product up close, the shelves at opening time, and a voice telling your real story. Below are 40 ideas, two scripts, and a plan for the week.

The script behind the video above
Before the Doors Open
1
Before the doors open on Small Business Saturday, the lights in this shop have been on for hours.
2
The shelves are restocked by hand, one jar and one label at a time.
3
The coffee is already brewing for the regulars who come in before the crowd.
4
Every gift gets wrapped at this counter, by the same people who made it.
5
Here, you are not a number in a sales report. You are a name we remember.
6
So this Saturday, November 28, come by, say hello, and find something made nearby.
7
Small Business Saturday. Shop local, all weekend long.

Why Small Business Saturday Exists
1
Small Business Saturday did not start as an old tradition. It started as a campaign in 2010.
2
American Express created it to send holiday shoppers to local, independent businesses.
3
It sits between Black Friday's big store deals and Cyber Monday's online ones.
4
The idea is simple: spend some of your holiday budget with the shops on your own street.
5
The bookstore, the cafe, the salon, the hardware store, the bakery that knows your order.
6
This year it falls on Saturday, November 28. Pick one local shop and start there.
A posting plan for Thanksgiving week 2026
Plan the offer in early November and start talking about it about ten days out. Most people decide where they will shop that weekend before Thanksgiving, so the posts that matter most go out the week before, not on the day.
November 9 to 15: pick one clear offer and agree on a shared post with neighboring shops.
November 16 to 22: announce the offer and your Saturday hours, and start behind-the-scenes posts.
Monday November 23 to Wednesday November 25: owner story, product close-ups, a reminder of the date.
Thursday November 26: a short thank-you for Thanksgiving. No sale.
Friday November 27: "See you tomorrow" with the offer, hours, and what you have the most of.
Saturday November 28: one post before opening, and a short update around midday on what is left.
Sunday November 29: a thank-you with real footage from the day.
Monday November 30: your online shop link for anyone who missed Saturday.
How to film a shop reel without showing your face
You do not need to be on camera for people to feel they know you. Film your hands doing the work (pouring, cutting, wrapping, styling), the product at eye level with natural light from the window, and the storefront at the start and end of the day. Record the sound of the shop: the bell on the door, the espresso machine, scissors. A voiceover telling one true story ties it together.
Shoot a few seconds of each thing in one go, then let the voiceover carry the order. Ten short clips are easier to cut than one long take. If you have no footage yet, stock clips of similar hands and shelves work while you build your own library.
What to avoid
Do not invent statistics about how much of each dollar stays local; the numbers vary and people notice made-up ones. Do not use American Express logos or suggest they sponsor your offer. Ask before filming customers or featuring another shop. Skip putting down big retailers; talk about what you do well instead. Keep the offer simple and say exactly when it ends, and do not run a countdown timer that resets.
How to make it in TallyReel
Type one idea, such as "the early morning prep before our doors open", and edit the draft until it sounds like you. Add your own clips and photos, or let the app pick stock footage for each line, then add a voiceover, captions and music. Make the whole week of posts in one evening, and use Post scheduling to send them to Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube on the dates above.
