Nobody Is Looking at Your Shirt
You think people notice you far more than they actually do. Psychologists measured it.
In a study at Cornell, students had to wear an embarrassing T-shirt into a room full of other students.
Afterwards, they guessed about half the room had noticed the shirt.
The real number was closer to a quarter.
Researchers call this the spotlight effect. We feel lit up on a stage, while everyone else is busy with their own spotlight.
So the stain, the stumble, the bad hair day? Most people didn't see it.
