Why the Flag Is Green and White
Look closely at Pakistan's flag. That white stripe on the left is not decoration.
The flag was adopted just days before independence in August 1947.
The dark green field is widely described as standing for the Muslim majority.
And the white stripe is usually explained as the country's religious minorities.
The crescent is often read as progress, and the star as light and knowledge.
So every 14 August, when millions of flags go up, that stripe goes up with them. Jashn-e-Azadi Mubarak.
