The fox who borrowed the stars
Every night, Pip the fox borrowed one star from the sky to light her den. She never gave one back.
By winter she had a hundred stars, and the sky above the forest had gone completely dark.
The owls got lost. The moths flew in circles. The baby rabbits were too scared to sleep.
Pip looked at her glowing den, then at the empty sky, and her ears went hot.
So she carried every star to the tallest hill and threw them back, one by one, all night long.
Her den was dark again. But when she looked up, the whole forest was looking up with her.
